Welcome to North Marion County, this region offers an abundance of scenic landscapes, historical sites, and recreational opportunities that are perfect for explorers of all ages. From the majestic waterfalls of Silver Falls State Park to the tranquil fishing ponds at St. Louis Fish Ponds County Park, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

To make the most of your outdoor adventure, it's essential to come prepared. Ensure you pack sunscreen to protect from the sun, bring plenty of water to stay hydrated, and wear suitable clothing and footwear for the various activities you'll encounter. With these preparations, you'll be ready to fully embrace the natural wonders and rich history that North Marion County has to offer.

Whether you're hiking, picnicking, or simply soaking in the serene surroundings, this itinerary will guide you to the best spots for an unforgettable outdoor experience. So grab your gear and get ready to explore the great outdoors in North Marion County!

Start your adventure at Silver Falls, often referred to as the "crown jewel" of Oregon state parks. With the famous Trail of Ten Falls, this park offers a scenic 7.2-mile loop that takes you past ten breathtaking waterfalls, including the spectacular 177-foot South Falls. Whether you choose to hike the entire loop or just visit a few falls, the lush forest, and cascading waters will leave you in awe. 

When visiting for the day be sure to pack your Oregon State Parks pass or bring $5 for your parking pass. If you are hoping to stay overnight explore some of these camping options

If you are looking for more thrill and adventure, you may want to check out Tree Climbing at Silver Falls 

Head over to Champoeg State Heritage Area. This park is steeped in Oregon’s history, being the site of the state's first provisional government. Explore the visitor center, historical markers, and take a stroll along the scenic trails that wind through forests, fields, and along the Willamette River.

Enjoy a picnic lunch in one of the park’s picturesque picnic areas, or bring your discs for a lively game of frisbee golf. Delve into the destinations history by visiting the Visitor Center. If you can't fit this all into one day consider camping! There is quite a variety of camping options including Yurt's and RV Parking. 

Continue your journey at Willamette Mission State Park, a beautiful area known for its diverse ecosystems and historical significance. Explore the park’s trails for jogging, cycling, and horse back riding, bring a kayak or canoe to paddle on Mission Lake, and visit the site of the original Willamette Mission established in 1834. Consider camping for the night. There are fire rings, picnic tables, water and a flush restroom building.

Don’t miss the 270-year-old Black Cottonwood tree, one of the largest of its kind in the nation.  

Head to Mt. Angel Abbey, a serene and spiritually enriching destination. Founded in 1882 by Benedictine monks, the abbey offers stunning views of the Willamette Valley, beautiful architecture, and peaceful walking trails. Enjoy a peaceful walk though their nature reserve or have a meditative walk up the hill viewing their Fourteen Stations of the Cross

Unwind at St. Louis Fish Ponds County Park, a hidden gem perfect for fishing and relaxation. The park features several well-stocked ponds, picnic areas, and easy walking trails. It's a great spot to cast a line, enjoy a peaceful stroll, or simply relax by the water. The park’s serene environment makes it an ideal place to enjoy the natural beauty and calm ambiance.

Visit The Oregon Garden in Silverton. This stunning botanical garden features over 20 specialty gardens showcasing the diverse flora of the region. Stroll through the Rose Garden, the Children's Garden, and the Sensory Garden, among others. The garden’s expansive layout and beautiful landscapes offer something for everyone.

Visit one of Marion Counties hidden gems, Scotts Mills county park. Take a journey off the beaten path to view cascading water flowing over the Scotts Mills Dam. The warm water of Butte Creek, the swimming hole below the natural rock waterfall, and the woodsy appearance of the park are features that bring people here for summer fun. 

This stunning waterfall cascades over a 92-foot basalt cliff into a serene pool below, creating a picturesque scene that is perfect for photography, relaxation, and exploration. The hike to Abiqua Falls is an adventure in itself, featuring rugged terrain and a challenging trail that rewards hikers with breathtaking views and the soothing sounds of the waterfall. This location doesn't have an official website but we highly recommend doing your research before visiting this glorious destination.
